Daring Debates 2016 was curated by Television for the Environment (tv/e) and took place at five different venues : Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Goa and Guwahati.
The topic for the debate was, “Can Civil Society Advance Social Change?”
What is the role and the impact of civil society in a vibrant and dynamic democracy like India’s? Does it aid positive societal transformation and strengthen civic action? Does it lend a unique character to our nation? Debaters will approach the topic from varied angles and create new and deeper insights.
Format of the Debate
The topic was contested between various teams – each team comprising of two members, one speaking for, and the other against the motion. College students from different institutions competed at their assigned venues in their respective cities. The winning duo from each city got the opportunity to travel to Goa to battle for the laurels at the Daring Debates finale. This was held at International Centre of Goa during Difficult Dialogues on January 30, 2016.
