Leena Abraham is professor at the Centre for Studies in Sociology of Education, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Her research areas include medical pluralism, medical education in the Indian systems of medicine, youth sexuality, education and employment, gender and knowledge networks in agriculture. Her articles on Ayurveda drew attention to the growth of indigenous knowledge in India and the diverse trajectories of their development. She has edited a collection of essays on indigenous medicine in India along with V. Sujatha in the Economic and Political Weekly and co-edited a book on Medical Pluralism in Contemporary India. Leena Abraham was awarded the Homi Bhabha Fellowship in the year 2007 to undertake research on ‘Traditional Knowledge in Modern Settings: A Study of Ayurveda in Kerala’.
