Professor Margaret O’Brien is Director of the Thomas Coram Research Unit in UCL’s Institute of Education and co-chair of UCL’s Grand Challenge of Justice and Equality.
As Professor in Child and Family Policy Margaret’s research is on fathers, work and family life, with a policy and parenting support focus. She seeks to understand how fathers and mothers can work and care together for the welfare of children and gender equality and is one of a group of academics profiling 21st century fathers at home and at work through the ESRC funded Modern Fatherhood project.
She is a co-coordinator of the International Network on Parental Leave Policy and Research http://www.leavenetwork.org/ which has representatives from 42 countries across the world. Margaret was a member of UN experts group in the International Year of the Family 2014 where she contributed to the first UN’s report on men Men in Families and Family Policy in a Changing World Report http://www.un.org/esa/socdev/family/docs/men-in-families.pdf
