MEERAN CHADHA BORWANKAR
Rtd. as the Director General, Bureau of Police Research & Development and National Crime Records Bureau (New Delhi-2016-17), Dr. Meeran Chadha Borwankar was the first ever women to be posted as Commissioner of Mumbai Crime Branch in its 150-year long history. She was also the Commissioner of Police, Pune city from 2010-2012.
She holds a doctorate degree in ‘Organizational Management’ from the University of Pune.
Dr. Meeran has been awarded with the Police medal and the Director General’s insignia for her meritorious service and Hubert Humphrey Fellowship (2001-02) in the three decades of her policing career. She has also authored the book, ‘Leaves of Life’ which was published by Vishvakarma Publications in 2017. Dr. Meeran has always been very passionate about the issue of women protection and Gender Equality. During her working carrier she did research studies on, ‘Gender Friendliness of Maharashtra Police’ (2014-15) to prepare a scale, which can assess gender friendliness of police organization and on, ‘Mahila Dakshata/Suraksha Samities’ of Maharashtra. The findings of latter were published by International Police Executive Symposium in its book ‘Global Community Policing, Problems and Challenges’; CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group 2013.
