SARA HOSSAIN

SARA HOSSAIN

Sara Hossain practices law at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and a partner at the law firm of Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates. She currently serves pro bono as the Honorary Executive Director of the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust, the country’s leading dedicated legal aid NGO and as an Advisory Committee Member of the Women’s International Coalition on Gender Justice (WICG), and was a founding director of the South Asia Women’s Fund.

Sara has led public interest litigation before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh which resulted in judgments prohibiting ‘fatwa’ violence (degrading punishments being imposed on women and girls accused of violating community norms on sexuality), ‘forced veiling’, corporal punishment in schools. She writes and speaks on public interest law, human rights, freedom of expression and religious sentiments and, women’s rights and access to justice. She has edited publications on ‘honour’ crimes  and public interest litigation.
